ZAZTEK International · Games

Build the hunt. Print it. Hide it.

A workshop for making your own treasure hunt — clues, ciphers, stations, teams and a map — then printing the whole kit. No phones needed on the day.

Runs entirely on your device. Works with no internet at all — useful, because good hiding places rarely have signal.

How an evening comes together

Half an hour on the sofa the night before, then a printer, then scissors.

Lay out the stationsName each hiding place and put them in order. Five stations or fifteen — the loop closes wherever you stop.
Write the cluesOne clue per station, in your own words about your own house. That is what makes a hunt land, and no generic pack can do it for you.
Encipher themPick a shift and the builder enciphers your clue for you. Children who have never seen a Caesar cipher work it out in about a minute, and are extremely pleased with themselves.
Draw the mapDrop your own photo or floor plan in, then place the station markers on it by dragging. Prints as part of the kit.
Split the teamsName the teams, add the members, set who starts where so twelve cousins are not all crowded round the same bookshelf.
Print the kitClue cards, the map, the game master guide, and a champion certificate with a space for the winning team's name.

Two different games

People ask how this differs from Munzee. They solve opposite problems — pick by whether you want paper or phones.

Treasure Hunt Builder — this one

You are making a physical kit in advance. On the day there is nothing digital at all.

  • Printed clue cards and a printed map
  • Ciphers to decode by hand
  • No signal, no accounts, no phones
  • Indoors, a garden, a small venue
  • Best for young children and mixed ages

Munzee

A live game. QR codes hidden across a real area, teams racing, scores moving as they find things.

  • QR codes scanned on phones
  • Live leaderboard and map
  • Everyone needs a phone and signal
  • A neighbourhood or a whole venue
  • Best for teenagers and adults

Small things that matter on the day

Saved on your device

Every hunt you build is kept in a library on that device. Last year's Eid hunt is still there to load, tweak and reprint rather than starting again.

A guide for whoever runs it

The kit prints a game master sheet: the answer to every clue, the station order, and what to do when a team gets properly stuck. Hand it to an uncle and go and sit down.

Preview before you waste paper

See the whole kit laid out as it will print, so you find the clue with a typo before you have run twenty copies of it.

Installs like an app

Add it to the home screen and it opens without a browser bar. Because it holds nothing on a server, it keeps working on a plane or in a basement.

Thirty minutes now, a whole afternoon later

Build it tonight, print it in the morning, and watch them argue about a cipher for an hour.
